Abstract: | The issue of the education of Roma pupils is gaining importance of late, especially with regard to their professional development, future employability, and their successful inclusion in society. The socialization of this group is influenced by important determinants specific to the social and cultural environment of Roma families, as well as by their living in areas affected by social exclusion and a number of negatively impactful, even pathological, social phenomena. In the context of the reproduction theory of society and the subsequent theory of social and cultural reproduction as it applies to the field of education, children from Roma families are at risk for early departure from the education system. One of the key factors determining the pupils' decision in this area is the perception of the value of education. How much importance Roma pupils place on the education in their lives influences their educational aspirations as well as the potential for upward learning and social mobility. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology | ||||||||||
