dc.description.abstract This contribution was written within the framework of the GA ČR (Czech Science Foundation) grant-maintained project: Reg. No. 406/08/0459, Developing Managerial Tacit Knowledge. The paper introduces partial results of the research gained mostly from the questionnaire survey among Czech managers. The questionnaire was focused on these questions: In what areas of managerial work do you have reserves that can be eliminated by further development (training)? What is your personal experience with managerial training and development courses? What are the weaknesses of managerial training courses? How much do you use the knowledge gained in the training courses in your work? What are the barriers that you have to face when you want to apply newly acquired knowledge into practice? Etc. The author sees the need and the solution of this thematic topic in its contribution to the increasing improvement of the quality of the professional preparation (i.e., education or formation) of managers for the performance of their managerial duties. If however, we can come up with new observations relating to this field, the results will show themselves in the actual performance of individual managers in their work. This can as a consequence lead to increasing the competitive abilities of individual organizations. en
