dc.description.abstract Today's society encounters cyber attacks on the energy sector not only on a theoretical level but unfortunately also in reality. The total number of cyberattacks is still rising, despite the ever-evolving defense against them. The article contains an overview of the largest cyberattacks in history on the energy sector and ways to carry them out. A cyber attack is a situation where a hacker or their group tries to gain access to key information or elements of the infrastructure. These can be power plants, their control centers, or distribution systems. The goal is to control or upload a malicious file. The energy system currently needs to adapt to this threat, risks need to be identified and scenarios need to be prepared to minimize the damage. The control systems of individual elements cannot be controlled without information technology, where their separation from the public network is not always technically possible. The article continues with an analysis of the current topic, where energy security is an important part of each country's strategy. It focuses on emphasizing the requirements for protection, prevention, and the possibility of minimizing attacks. Finally, the findings and recommendations are summarized. © 2021 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. All rights reserved. en
