dc.description.abstract The theme of urban regeneration has been becoming more and more important issue on the political agenda with respect to the processes of deindustrialization and of the transition to post-industrial society and creativity. In this context, culture has acquired a relevant position in urban regeneration strategies. The article overviews the processes of urban regeneration using the currently ongoing Regional Cultural and Education Centre project in Zlin as the case study. The article claims that the project is in accord with the traditional theoretical frameworks of urban regeneration through culture. The project is expected to bring economic benefits such as tourism development and to strengthen the cultural image of the city. Moreover, the relationship between education, research and culture is emphasised. Altogether, the authors regard the case study as an example of a modern post-industrial approach to urban redevelopment based on synergies. Simultaneously, they call for the need to stimulate interest of a wide range of actors for future success of the project. en
